Welcome to Turku Flight Club website

Turku Flight Club is one of the largest general aviation flying clubs in Finland. Our club has nearly 500 members and we represent general aviation in different forms. We give our members the possibility to fly aircraft, gliders and touring motor gliders. We have on our disposal 3 aircraft, 2 touring motor gliders and 6 gliders. For the younger members we also have RC activity that includes flying and building the RC planes. Our co-operation with Saaristo Flying club also allows our members to fly with ultralight airplanes.

Aside from flying, the club is also involved in training new pilots as an EASA DTO. We provide flight training for aircraft, gliders and touring motor gliders. The club performs fire control flights during the summer and search and rescue (SAR) year-round if required.

The club operates at Turku airport and Oripää airfield. Turku is the primary place for powered flights while Oripää is mainly for glider flights.

Flight training

Private pilot license (PPL(A)) and Light aircraft pilot licence (LAPL(A))

The club provides training for PPL(A) an LAPL(A) all year-round. The ground school part is done remotely with our partner.

We also provide ratings for night flying, sea flying (with your own plane) and towing. It is also possible to get SAR and fire control training.

In the year 2021 the costs were 1.500€ for the ground school and 9.900€ for the flight training. This includes the rent of the aircraft (DV-20, 45 hours) and a flight instructor. If you are interested in light aircraft pilot license LAPL(A) instead, the flight costs would be 6.600€.

Note that the costs above do not include other costs such as the medical certificate applied from the nominated aviation medical examiners and authorized by the Finnish Transport Safety Agency (Traficom).

Touring motor glider pilot license (SPL + TMG)

The club provides training for touring motor glider pilot license annually. The ground school part is done remotely at Suomen Urheiluilmailuopisto.

In the year 2021 the costs are 540€ for the ground school and about 4.500€ for the flight training. This includes the rent (RF-5, 21 hours), and a flight instructor.

Glider pilot license (SPL)

The club provides training for glider pilot license annually. The ground school part is done remotely at Suomen Urheiluilmailuopisto.

In 2021 the costs are 540€ for the ground school and 2.300€ for the flight training. This includes aerotow, the rent (DG-1000 S, 15 hours and 45 flights), and a flight instructor.
